Press Release Body = Many businesses claim to have something for everyone, but the trendy new shop called Miscellaneous in Downtown Grapevine makes good on the promise with an assortment of items that are as colorful as they are unique. A strong friendship between Flower Mound residents Annette Massing and Judy Jobin forms the foundation of Miscellaneous, which opened its doors to the public at 405 S. Main in October 2006. "I first met Judy when we worked together for the same direct sales company," Massing said. "We moved up together in the company-and both of us could see that the other was a hard worker. "We were looking for a business opportunity, so we put our heads together and knew that this would be a good fit for us." Massing and Jobin decided to build the business around the current popularity of "Crocs" shoes, which are available in many colors and sizes. With the largest Crocs selection in North Dallas, they knew their store would have to offer more than that in order to keep shoppers interested. "Everybody in the family browses when they come in here," Jobin said. "Crocs and Jibbitz (the charms that fit on the Crocs shoes) are definitely our biggest draw, but we have a lot more to offer. We have a variety of gifts, hip accessories and a children's department that people enjoy, as well as a 'tween' section for the 8-12 age group that tends to get overlooked by a lot of retailers." Miscellaneous has also expressed their desire to support local artists by featuring their work. For example, shoppers will find unique one of a kind pieces of jewelry, dichroic glass, and custom framed crosses. "We have the kind of items you just can't find anywhere else," Jobin said. "And we're moving toward having artists in the shop on Saturdays where people can actually watch them work on their art and do special orders right there on the spot." The store also features "The Soda Jerk," where shoppers can take a quick break while enjoying their favorite beverage or ice cream sundae. Massing said there was never a doubt as to where the business should be located. "This area provides such a special shopping experience," Massing said. "I've been extremely impressed with the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, the HDGA and other organizations who support this area. "The plan they have for Historic Downtown Grapevine is innovative and very progressive. The city does all it can to have activities that bring visitors to the downtown area. As a retailer-you just can't beat it. It's a win-win situation." Miscellaneous is also one of the few on Main Street open seven days weekly.
